What is DTF printing?

DTF (Direct-to-Film) is a printing method where your design is printed onto a special film using CMYK plus white ink, then coated with hot-melt adhesive powder and cured. The resulting transfer is applied to fabric with a standard heat press. Unlike screen printing, there are no minimums or setup fees. Unlike HTV, there is no weeding and unlimited colors. Unlike DTG, no pretreatment is required.

What fabrics can I press DTF transfers on?

DTF works on cotton, polyester, cotton/poly blends, nylon, leather, denim, canvas, mesh, and more. It is the most versatile heat-transfer method available. One transfer works on all these fabrics — you do not need different transfers for different materials. See our fabric compatibility guide for details.

How long do DTF prints last?

DTF prints are rated for 50+ wash cycles with no cracking, peeling, or fading when properly applied and cared for. Wash inside-out in cold water with mild detergent, tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not bleach or dry clean. The print should outlast the garment under normal use.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Zero. You can order a single transfer. There are no minimums and no setup fees. Price per sheet drops as quantity increases — see our pricing page for the full breakdown.

What file format should I send?

PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI is preferred. We also accept AI, EPS, SVG, and PDF vector files. For raster files, avoid JPG because it does not support transparency. See our artwork specs for full requirements.

Do I need to mirror my artwork?

No. Send your artwork in its normal orientation. We print it correctly. You place the transfer face-up on the garment and press. The film peels off leaving the ink right-side up.

What is a gang sheet?

A gang sheet is a single transfer sheet with multiple designs arranged on it. For example, you might put a 4-inch chest logo, a 12-inch back print, and a 2-inch sleeve tag all on one 16 x 20 inch sheet. You are charged by the sheet, not by the design — so packing more designs onto a gang sheet lowers your cost per print. See our gang sheet pricing.

How fast is your turnaround?

Standard turnaround is 48 hours from artwork approval to shipment. Rush production (24-hour turnaround) is available for +50% on orders up to 100 sheets. Bulk orders (100+ sheets) take 3-5 days. You will receive a tracking number when your order ships.

Do I need a heat press?

Yes, a heat press is required for proper application. A household iron will not work because it cannot deliver even, consistent pressure and temperature across the transfer. Entry-level heat presses start around $150-200. If you are doing production runs, a 15x15 clamshell or draw press is recommended.

What temperature and pressure should I use?

300°F (149°C) at medium pressure for 10-15 seconds. Cold peel, then re-press for 5 seconds with a Teflon cover sheet. Always pre-press the garment for 5 seconds to remove wrinkles and moisture before applying the transfer. See our full press instructions.

Can I wash the garment right after pressing?

Wait 24 hours before the first wash to allow the adhesive to fully cure. After that, wash inside-out in cold water with mild detergent. No bleach. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not dry clean.

Do you offer samples?

Yes. We offer a sample pack with 3 transfers in various sizes for $10. This lets you test your press settings and fabric compatibility before placing a full order. Request a sample pack.

Can you help with my artwork?

Yes. We offer background removal and minor cleanup for $10, and full raster-to-vector conversion for $15. We also arrange gang sheets for $5 if you send individual files. If your artwork has issues, we will contact you before printing.

Do you ship internationally?

Currently we ship within the United States. International shipping is planned — contact us if you need it and we will work something out.

What if my transfers arrive damaged?

Contact us within 7 days of receiving your order with photos of the damage. We will reprint and ship replacements at no cost. Transfers should be stored flat in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Can I resell the transfers?

Yes. Many of our customers are other businesses that resell transfers or pressed garments. We offer custom backing paper with your branding for +$2/sheet. Contact us for wholesale pricing on 500+ sheet orders.

My design has a background — will you remove it?

If your PNG has a solid or white background instead of transparency, we can remove it for $10. However, we recommend removing it yourself before sending — you know which parts of your design should be transparent and which should not. Free tools like remove.bg or Photoshop's Magic Wand work well for simple backgrounds.

What is the smallest text size that prints clearly?

For crisp, legible text, we recommend a minimum font size of 6pt at actual print size. Text smaller than 4pt may lose definition. Bold sans-serif fonts print cleaner than thin serif fonts at small sizes. If your design has very fine text, we will send you a proof before printing so you can approve the legibility.

Can I see a proof before you print?

Yes. We send a digital proof with every order showing your artwork on the selected sheet size, with dimensions and quantity confirmed. You approve the proof before we begin printing. This is included at no extra cost. For color-critical orders, we can also print a single physical sample for $10 before running the full batch.

What if my colors do not match what I see on screen?

Screen colors (RGB) and printed colors (CMYK) are different color spaces. We use ICC profile conversion to get as close as possible, but some bright neons and fluorescent colors cannot be reproduced in CMYK. If color accuracy is critical, order a $10 physical sample first, or request custom Pantone matching ($40/color). We will contact you if your design contains colors that may shift significantly.

Can you print gradients and photographs?

Yes — this is one of DTF's biggest advantages over screen printing and HTV. Photographic images, smooth gradients, skin tones, and subtle color transitions all print beautifully. Send your photo at 300 DPI as a PNG with transparent background. If your photo has a background, we can remove it for $10.

What is the stretch test and why does it matter?

The stretch test is simple: grab the printed fabric and pull it 180 degrees in every direction. If the ink cracks or splits, it fails. DTF passes every time because the ink layer is thin and elastic — it moves with the fabric. This is critical for athletic wear, leggings, yoga pants, baby onesies, and any garment that stretches during wear. HTV and screen printing typically fail the stretch test, which is why they crack at stress points like elbows, knees, and collar seams.

Can I order UV-DTF transfers for hard surfaces?

Yes. UV-DTF is a different process that uses UV-cured inks on a harder adhesive, designed for non-fabric surfaces: phone cases, tumblers, mugs, glass, metal, plastic, wood, and ceramic. UV-DTF transfers are scratch-resistant, water-resistant, and dishwasher-safe (top rack). Pricing differs from fabric DTF — request a quote with your project details.

Do you offer metallic, glitter, or glow-in-the-dark inks?

Yes. We offer metallic gold (+$2/sheet), glitter flake in 5 colors (+$3/sheet), holographic (+$4/sheet), glow-in-the-dark (+$3/sheet), and reflective (+$4/sheet). See our specialty inks page for details. These are printed on the same DTF film and applied with the same press settings as standard transfers.

Can I get custom Pantone color matching?

Yes. Custom ink mixing is $40 per color per order. Send us your Pantone code and we will match within a Delta-E of 2.0 or better. This is ideal for brand-precise logos where the exact corporate blue or red matters. For most designs, standard CMYK is more than sufficient — Pantone matching is only needed when an exact brand standard must be hit.

Can I reorder the same design later?

Yes. We keep your artwork on file for 12 months. Just email us with your original order number and the new quantity. Reorders skip the artwork review step, so they ship even faster — usually within 24 hours. Same pricing applies, so if your original order was at a quantity discount tier, the reorder at the same quantity gets the same price.

Do you provide order tracking?

Yes. Every order ships with USPS Priority Mail tracking (or UPS for rush orders). You will receive a tracking number by email when your order ships. You can also request tracking updates by text message — just include your phone number with your order.

Do you offer wholesale or reseller pricing?

Yes. If you are reselling transfers or pressed garments, we offer wholesale pricing on orders of 500+ sheets. Wholesale customers get a dedicated price list, priority production slots, and custom backing paper with your branding (+$2/sheet). Contact us with your business details and expected monthly volume for a wholesale quote.

How do I pay?

We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, and Venmo. Invoices are sent after artwork approval. Payment is due before printing begins.
